La Plebe at Slim’s SF, November 5, 2010

One of my favorite San Francisco bands, La Plebe, is releasing a CD produced by one of my favorite San Francisco musicians, Billy Gould (bassist of Faith No More). La Plebe asked me to make a poster for the event. So here’s my poster for La Plebe’s CD release party, some rock’n’roll love and revolution propaganda for San Francisco’s superb, subversive musical outfit. Look for their CD on Kool Arrow Records.

La Plebe Record Release Poster

16.5 x 35

Edition of 100

2 Tone (Gold and Blue/silver) on Deep Blue Linen Textured Paper

Signed and Numbered

Of Montreal at The Warfield Poster

I was monkeying around with this image, and I may be no genius, but I do share 98% of my genome with our friends depicted here. Seemed like a good image for such a fun and extremely experimental and psychedelic band like Of Montreal. Certainly a poster for those of you with evolved tastes.

Bad Dads, “Margot” The Royal Tenenbaums Poster

My poster is an homage – not only to the films of Wes Anderson – but an homage also to Alphonse Mucha and his “Medea” poster. I’ve run with the idea that Margot Tenenbaum is a playwright and here she has cast herself in the role of Medea, the tragic protagonist from Euripide’s play, as portrayed in Mucha’s poster.

It’s twelve colors, six colors on each of the two pieces. It is printed as a diptych – top and bottom – much like Alphonse Mucha printed his two piece posters in the early 1900’s. Both pieces of “Margot” fit together to create a 22″ x 62″ diptych.

Each piece will be approx 22 x 31 – there’s printed overlap on the bottom part and a full bleed cut on the top part – so they fit together.

22 x 62 (in two parts)

12 colors on archival cream paper

Mumford & Sons at The Warfield, Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Mumford & Sons brings their unique blend of folk and deep heartfelt romanticism to The Warfield in San Francisco, with Mt. Desolation and King Charles opening. These world travelers have a really spectacular video of their journey through India and beyond on their website – give it a look – gives you a great idea of where they are coming from and the kind of robust spirit they bring to the stage.

Manu Chao, Rupa & The April Fishes, The Warfield, October 15, 2010

Amazing show tonight! Manu Chao’s manager accepted my posters with a dead-pan, “Thank you.” Then I mentioned that I squatted in Italy for a year (2006) and that Manu Chao was the ubiquitous soundtrack to the experience. At that, he cracked a big smile and said, “Thank you, bro!” I want to thank Marcello from Argentina, my print shop mate in Italy at Centro Sociale Leoncavallo in Milan, for turning me onto Manu Chao.

San Francisco’s own Rupa & The April Fishes took the stage and fired up the crowd. You may remember that Rupa opened for Spearhead on my Power to the Peaceful poster.

Manu Chao is more an experience and political touchstone than just a mere musical act. I don’t think I’m alone when I remember not only their songs, but where I was, and what I was committed to doing when I first heard them.
