Chuck Sperry’s 311 Poster Wins Award

My 311 Poster has been voted Poster of the Week by Expressobeans members. Thanks to all my supporters, I super appreciate it! Many thanks to Expressobeans.com.

I was commissioned by 311 to create a poster commemorating their show at the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, Irving, Texas.

My poster shows Kallirhoe nymph of the spring, in ancient Athens, that flows from a shady bank into the Ilissos River.  The lush shores of the Ilissos near Kallirhoe were peaceful, idyllic, even Socrates preferred this very spot to teach.

Kallirhoe means “beautiful flow” – and I think that describes the perfect night out to see your favorite band.

Kallirhoe, a maiden of wondrous beauty …
for her beauty was not merely human but divine
—not that of Nereid or mountain nymph,
but of Aphrodite herself.
—Chariton

The Black Keys, London, September 2, 2026
20” x 37”
Artist Edition of 50
5 colors on Fedrigoni paper

I am thrilled to offer you my three new posters for The Black Keys’ London trifecta: playing three major venues in London, in three exciting nights!

  1. Eventim Apollo • Aug 31
  2. O2 Academy Brixton • Sept 1
  3. British Airways ARC Olympia • Sept 2

The Black Keys are touring Europe with their brand new album “Peaches!”: a raw, instinctual companion piece to their 2021 covers album “Delta Kream”. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney approached the project using gut instinct, drawing inspiration from crate-digging and their regular “Record Hang” dance parties, to produce a brilliant, gritty return to their musical roots.

I will make a limited online launch of my artist editions of The Black Keys London posters through EQL opening on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 9 am PST. The launch closes on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 9 pm PST.

“Danaïde” wears early spring flowers and carries her terracotta amphora decorated with the winged horse Pegasus. As Pegasus stamps the earth, so bursts a spring; as Hippocrene flows on Mt Helicon, so flows inspiration from the source of the muses.

The myth of the 50 Danaïdes, condemned for all eternity to toil, to endlessly carry water to fill a leaking vessel. Sisyphus fated to bear his heavy stone uphill, only to lose his burden near the hilltop, and to begin again.

This is our struggle for equal rights, for our democracy. To paraphrase Albert Camus: the struggle itself — to continually work to fill the leaking jar — is enough to fill her heart. One must imagine the Danaïdes happy.
