Color x Color Second Printing Book Release in USA & EU

Surprise! I made the difficult trip from San Francisco to Europe to import my books to the European Union. After more than six months of researching the travel restrictions, and finally more than two months of collecting all manner of paperwork necessary, I took my mandatory Covid exam, filed my work permit, received special permissions to import goods and work safely in the art / cultural economic sphere – I was cleared to fly to France.

Mission: Color x Color book release in Europe.

I’ve quarantined for 3 days so far, and will continue for 8 days total. I’m in a work bubble with proper Covid protocols. Masks and hand washing. I’m in an open rural area. There is no population density here. I feel safe, and I’ll work to stay safe. France has a scientific approach in the context of a democracy which I respect.

I will be making an online release IN AMERICA of the second printing my career spanning book, “Color x Color: The Sperry Archive, 1980-2020” on Thursday, October 15, 2020. HERE

I may stop the online sale at a certain number, and restart soon again (estimate in a week) to keep the orders shipping smoothly. These orders are US ONLY and will be shipped from Hangar 18 in Oakland, USA.

I will be making a limited book release event, following safe Covid protocols, at l’Oeil Ouvert Gallery, 1 rue Lucien Sampaix 75010 Paris on October 22, 2020, time to be announced. I will be there in person! More Information

I will be making a second limited book release event, following safe Covid protocols, at Next Door Gallery, rue de L’Arquebuse 16, Geneve 1204 on October 29, 2020, time to be announced. I will be there in person! More Information

There will be a EUROPEAN ONLY online release of “Color x Color” in November, date and time to be announced. These orders are EUROPE ONLY and will be shipped from France. HERE

Sperry Solo “The World To Come” at Next Door Gallery Geneva

The World To Come

Next Door Gallery
Rue de l’Arquebuse 16
1204 Geneva, Switzerland
October 29 to November 14, 2020.

Next Door Gallery of Geneva, Switzerland is pleased to present “The World To Come” a solo exhibition by San Francisco-based screen print master Chuck Sperry.

For his upcoming solo exhibition in Geneva, Chuck will be showing his recent rock posters and art prints from the last two years. Chuck will also present his newest art book: “Color x Color: The Sperry Archive 1980-2020”.

American artist Chuck Sperry is known for his ethereal and psychedelically saturated screen prints that draw crowds of dedicated fans around the world. He draws inspiration from graffiti, pop art, Symbolism, Art Nouveau and ukiyo-e.

Moving past his early work devoted to subverting the memes of advertising, trash-culture, and comics — he currently imagines a verdant garden of new work tended by his signature shimmering muses, calling this work a “utopian provocation.”

“My current work has much more to do with symmetry and proportion, color and balance. It’s a utopian provocation; while the present era couldn’t be more off balance, more dystopian.  I want my work to provoke meditations and emotional responses to its clear colors, balance and symmetry – to give courage, light and beauty to all of us trapped in an ugly historical moment. I don’t want to fragment my work . . .  not just yet . . . or abstract or dissolve; I think of my work from the last few years as defiant in these dark times. I like to think I give people courage through it. It gives me courage to work on it.”
– Chuck Sperry, Juxtapoz Magazine, March 29, 2018

“The World To Come” is the latest traveling exposition of the work of Chuck Sperry, the celebrated screen print artist from San Francisco.

The Mavericks made their third appearance on the ACL stage showcasing a career milestone, their first Spanish-language album, En Español, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart. The genre-bending Country, Americana and Tejano-infused Rock & Roll band, who celebrated their 30th Anniversary in 2019, comes full circle to their early Miami roots to mesh their uplifting eclecticism with a collection of their own Spanish language originals, and classic Latin tracks from which they drew inspiration. The 12-song collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics and their unique take on classic tracks from the vast Latin American songbook, while five are originals written or co-written by the group’s co-founder Raul Malo. “This is the record I’ve been wanting the Mavericks to make for a very long time,” says Malo, the nine-piece outfit’s famously expressive lead singer. “I’m a first generation Cuban-American, and some of these songs are songs my family would play and sing on weekends at family parties and get-togethers. But it’s not all nostalgia either. There are plenty of new original songs that put this record squarely in the moment for us.” The foundation of En Español is solidly Latin with streaks of irreverent rock and twangy guitars running through it, all branded with the unmistakable Mavericks style. “This album, to me, celebrates all those cultures that are so beautiful and so vibrant,” says Malo. “I’m proud of this record for that. I think it’s a very inclusive record. Because this story is not just my story, it’s the story of a lot of Latinos.”
