I will be making a very limited release of the signed and numbered artist edition of my MC50 poster on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at a random time — in celebration of the 50th Zenta New Year — in other words the 50th anniversary of the live concert recording of Kick Out The Jams!

Read More (Zenta and the live recording of Kick Out The Jams)

In May 2018, Wayne Kramer announced an MC5 tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kick Out the Jams, with a line-up including himself, plus rock stalwarts Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Doug Pinnick (King’s X), Marcus Durant (Zen Guerrilla), Don Was (Was Not Was), Bill Gould (Faith No More) and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam).

I’ve been a fan of the MC5 since I was 9 years old. I grew up in a rebellious time in a crucible of art and politics. Swept up by the social transformations of the late-60’s and early-70s, my whole family was effected: an older brother of draft-age, another brother going to Kent State after anti-war activists were shot by the National Guard there, a sister who went to art school in Memphis, and a cousin who lived in the Trans-Love commune in Ann Arbor where MC5 was based. MC5 was the soundtrack of revolutionary times and my family’s immersion in it.

Growing up in Dayton, Ohio, relatively close to Detroit, MC5’s brand of revolutionary rock and roll made a deep impression on me, influenced my musical and artistic tastes, my political development, and helped inspire my commitment to social issues. I have been lucky enough to work with Wayne Kramer on a few tour posters over the years. Wayne is a cultural icon and is always an inspiration to work with. I’m honored to contribute to his legacy as a musician who has rocked so hard in resistance to the injustices of the world. – Chuck Sperry

I want to welcome a lot of newcomers to my site! I’ll quickly explain how my releases on my website are conducted. The MC50 posters will be available, right here, in this post on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at a random time. A paypal “Buy Now” button will appear under the poster (above) at a random time, and I will announce the price of the poster at the same time. Good luck to everyone, and as always, I am very appreciative of your support!

The Rock Poster Society, Festival of Rock Posters 2018

Getting super excited for TRPS this coming Saturday 10 am to 6 pm! I’ll have rare posters, unreleased variants, test prints, recent art prints, very limited oak panels, blotter art, my new books and really cool surprises! See you there for an action-packed Saturday in the Park!

No denying, it’s a great time for my work: TRPS from 10 am to 6 pm; “Hi-Fructose Presents: The Art of the Mushroom” from 7 pm to 10 pm; and all the while my museum solo is running until December 9 at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. The best part is to share Saturday with so many good friends, and with so many inspiring artists. Please join us!

This year’s version promises to offer another stellar lineup.

The location is at the corner of Ninth and Lincoln on the South edge of the Park, not far from the Haight, the DeYoung Museum, and the Academy of Sciences. There are plenty of great restaurants close by, too. Make it a weekend and bring the family to enjoy the great weather, an awesome poster event, and everything else San Francisco has to offer.

“Know Thyself” Art Print by Sperry at “Hi-Fructose Presents: The Art of The Mushroom” Group Show

Know Thyself, 2018
19 x 25.5
Edition of 100
4 colors on cream paper
Signed and Numbered

I was blessed to have visited Delphi – the navel of the earth – on the autumnal equinox this last month. Delphi is the site of a major temple to Apollo, as well as the famous oracle. Carved into the temple was the phrase: γνῶθι σεαυτόν – [gnōthi seautón] – “know thyself.” Ancient wisdom fitting seamlessly with the illuminating psychedelic influence of the mushroom, my printing-fingers got to work!

This poster will be available at The Compound Gallery at the opening for “Hi-Fructose Presents: The Art of The Mushroom” on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 7 pm.
