“Serigraph” Group Show in SF at Spoke Art July 13 to 31

Earlier this summer, from July 13 to July 31, 2021, SPOKE ART was proud to present SERIGRAPH, a dynamic group exhibition celebrating screen printing and analog print making as both a medium and a process. This comprehensive survey included artists from a variety of genres, backgrounds and styles.

“Each artist brings their unique experience in screen printing from their broad ranging experience in the world of concert posters, movie and film work, street art, fashion and beyond. Working with single or multicolor screen prints, each artist has created a new limited edition, melting the boundary between traditional art mediums and the analog printing process.”

Chuck Sperry • Erica Williams • Murugiah • Nikita Kaun • Eelus • David Moscati • Arna Miller • Tom Whalen • Jeremy Fish • Ian Glaubinger • Marc Spusta • GATS • Petite Luxures • Justin Santora • Luke Martin

I was away in France when this show opened in San Francisco and I would like to document it here on chucksperry.net to mark the auspicious occasion. My participation was discrete, as we feared a large crowd might gather during the pandemic, and my art piece “Primavera, Pampinea” was offered at the opening as a surprise, and the edition sold out swiftly.

“Empathy” Art Print Wins Award

My “Empathy” Art Print from 2020 has been voted Poster of the Week by Expressobeans members. Thanks to all my supporters, I super appreciate it! Many thanks to Expressobeans.com.

“My current work has much more to do with symmetry and proportion, color and balance. It’s a utopian provocation; while the present era couldn’t be more off balance, more dystopian.  I want my work to provoke meditations and emotional responses to its clear colors, balance and symmetry – to give courage, light and beauty to all of us trapped in an ugly historical moment. I don’t want to fragment my work . . .  not just yet . . . or abstract or dissolve; I think of my work from the last few years as defiant in these dark times. I like to think I give people courage through it. It gives me courage to work on it.” – Juxtapoz Magazine, March 29, 2018

I am making a renewed release of all my books – which are on sale and available again through my site. (also available on Amazon / or by ordering through your local independent bookstore in the US and throughout the world) – Click the link below to purchase through my site:

l’Oeil Ouvert Gallery of Paris and Next Door Gallery of Geneva are pleased to present Chuck Sperry’s next world tour “Color x Color” — a traveling solo exhibition by San Francisco-based screen print master.

For his upcoming solo exhibitions in Paris and Geneva, Chuck will be showing his latest editions on paper, latest editions on oak panel, and he will be presenting his new book “Color x Color: The Sperry Poster Archive 1980-2020”.

Also available: a limited release of archive oak panels, rare test prints and surprises.

American artist Chuck Sperry is known for his ethereal and psychedelically saturated screen prints that draw crowds of dedicated fans around the world. He draws inspiration from graffiti, pop art, Symbolism, Art Nouveau and ukiyo-e.

Moving past his early work devoted to subverting the memes of advertising, trash-culture, and comics — he currently imagines a verdant garden of new work tended by his signature shimmering muses, calling this work a “utopian provocation.”

Chuck Sperry remained committed to cultural activity during the global pandemic — prolifically making prints in quarantine in San Francisco, California and visiting France and Switzerland to support his international gallery partners in October 2020. Touring his art under strict curfews and with safe covid protocols, he made gallery shows in person despite the conditions while honoring various restrictions and quarantines. Sperry is returning this June 2021 as the pandemic restrictions lift — bringing his new work and an eye toward the future.

“It’s my hope this spring of 2021 that civilization unfolds again like a flower from its winter slumber. Let’s shake off our isolation, find solace in nature and again in our friends, art and music. Let’s heal our broken spirits through carefully tending our future like a garden towards justice.” – Chuck Sperry

Grateful Mahalo

Grateful Mahalo, Bill Kreutzmann’s 75th Birthday Pa’ina
Hosted by Billy & The Kids
with Billy Strings
20 x 35
7 colors on cream paper

This last month of releases has been an exciting one. I love sharing my new art prints and new concert posters as society is beginning to open again and live music returns. Thank you for your support of my art. I appreciate it!

I’ve never been one to brag about my efforts to fight bots and flippers. It’s my belief that this hobby should be fun. I’ve battled the bots for some time. There has been a rising tide of bot buyers and flippers, and I am doing my best to discourage this activity. Over the years, I’ve repeatedly worked with website engineers to block robot IPs. I’ve returned countless orders from suspicious purchases and insta-flippers. But the flippers and bots are cunning and hide behind new names, changing IP addresses, and use ever-advancing software.

Take note that on release of a new print, there are literally thousands of people going for the same prints at the same time. Not everyone can score. They go very fast.

I am pleased with the lottery release of my Grateful Mahalo print. I hope you are pleased as well. The lottery, conducted by my partners at Spoke Art Gallery, helped to make the prints accessible to real fans.

(In fact, this is the first I’ve shared the Grateful Mahalo print or spoken of it on social media or on my website since it was first released by Fans Live, and Bill Kreutzmann. I didn’t want to unintentionally alert the bot buyers.)

All winners have been notified. My apologies to those who did not win (if you did not receive a win notification by now – you’re hereby notified that you were not randomly chosen).

Congratulations to the winners! And again thank you for your support!
