Okay second, my special promotion, well, treasure hunt really.

If you’ve been reading my blog closely you may be aware that I have a lot of art work hanging around the fair City of San Francisco. I’d like you see to see all my art in person – so I’m providing a little incentive – in a fun way.

First here’s a list of the three exhibitions where I have work showing (then I’ll show you what you get, if you go and see them; and explain how you can get it) …

1. The San Francisco Museum Of Modern Art Window Gallery is exhibiting an 11 foot by 9 foot acrylic painting of mine called “Saint Everyone” on Minna Street (which is hanging with Chris Shaw’s and Ron Donovan’s paintings in adjoining windows). There is also a colaborative piece, I painted with Chris Shaw, called “Temporally Bound (Three Gorgons)” which is installed on Natoma Street on the other side of the SFMOMA garage.

2. Varnish Fine Art Gallery is exhibiting a painting of mine called “Heathen Child” at 16 Jesses Street as part of their Relaunch Show.

3. The San Francisco Public Library is exhibiting “High Volume: Rock Art from the Chuck Sperry Archive and the Firehouse Goldenvoice Poster Series” at the Main Branch on Grove and Market.

Here’s what you get – limited to one per person – on a first come / first serve basis – while supplies last:

The Rock Poster Society, Festival of Rock Posters, 2011

18 x 33

Edition of 100

2 colors on imported purple linen paper

Signed and Numbered

You must be physically present at one of the above listed shows and take a photo of yourself there: in front of my art. Then bring the photo to me at The Rock Poster Society, Festival of Rock Posters on October 8, 2011 and show me your photo. Once I verify that you have indeed been to one of the above listed shows, and have successfully taken a photo in front of my art there, then you will receive my poster (directly above) entitled “The Rock Poster Society, Festival of Rock Posters, 2011” (limited to one per person while supplies last on a first come / first serve basis). This exclusive release promotion is only available at TRPS Festival of Rock Posters, October 8, 2011.

Passion Pit at The Warfield

passionpit_ chucksperry333

I love it when the band gets the poster! When you have a discussion with the band over a piece and they say stuff like, “by far the best poster we’ve ever gotten,” “gritty and classy at the same time,” “I never hang up my band posters in my house, but this one goes up.” It’s Total Print Victory.

Then we had a cool discussion about the graffiti and how it somehow looks like Japanese characters. Pointed out that I gave shout outs to all my friends – Dave Hunter’s TRPS logo, Zoltron, Political Gridlock, and Ribbity (one of my favorite SF Graf artists).

Hangar 18 represents on an SF bus while the central figure “tunes out” with ipod in an introspective mood. Somehow all this technology still leaves us listening to our inner voice – even when blasting music.

Just a reminder – the Firehouse-Goldenvoice Poster Series is getting veeeery close to number 100.

Butthole Surfers, Melvins, Regency Poster by Mike King

surfers

I asked Mike King to create the Butthole Surfers Poster for the Firehouse Goldenvoice Series at The Regency, in San Francisco. I had the pleasure to spend some time with Mike King in the UK a couple of years ago. We were in Brighton, UK at the Fringe Festival; we both conducted workshops with British artists teaching silkscreening. The artists who attended our workshops formed an artist collective called BRAG – The British Rock Artists Group – and started firing off posters at mind-blowing speed, as they formed from our workshops and were really inspired to start from Mike and my visit. It was pretty gratifying to see that our workshops had made such a tangible impact.

–

Anyway, I’ve always wanted to collab with Mike since. I exhibited posters with him earlier this year at Vanish Fine Art, during The Gigposter Book release party. We were hanging out at the show and I thought to ask him to create a poster for the Butthole Surfers. He said, “Why don’t I just send you black color separations and you choose the colors.” The rock poster documentary American Artifact was being released the same week, the premiere was the next day at The Red Vic Theater. Marty Hohn TRPS President, was asking to see my American Artifact silkscreen poster while I was talking to Mike. I busted it out. And Mike reacted, “Dude! Yep, I definitely want you to choose the colors!”

–

So with the colors I chose, I went for ultimate eye-fry with multiple color vibrations on the blue/red, green/red, and blue/magenta: all vibrating color combinations. And just to give it that Firehouse touch, the three-eyed kitty is heavy silver metallic with a magenta tint.
