Printing Dave Hunter and Dennis Loren Posters

chucksperrydavehunter

Last week was a full schedule of printing Warfield posters for the Firehouse Goldenvoice Series.

Here’s Dave Hunter and I proudly showing off our unbelievably beautiful new poster for the Neville Brother and Dr. John.

I printed Dennis Loren’s Al Green poster (FHGV #59) last Tuesday…

Also I’ve been organizing the Malleus California Tour 2009. It’s going to be a really full schedule of great events and surprises.

I’ll be posting an announcement in the middle of next week so stay tuned! It’s going to be so fun hanging out with Urlo, Poia and Lu – and making some incredible art together… Can’t wait.

I’ll be returning to my own work next week with my new Power to the Peaceful 2009 poster. The show is coming up Saturday, September 12, 2009 and will feature Michael Franti and Spearhead, Sly and Robbie and Alanis Morissette. Here’s a look at the last two posters I’ve done for this series, posters for 2008 and 2007.

“Moonalice at The Green Spot” Poster

moonalice200

When I heard that Moonalice was playing at The Green Spot in Coos Bay, Oregon on Saturday, August 22, 2009, I thought, let’s make a red, pink, orange and magenta poster. I guess that’s just how my contrary mind works. The warm colors also contrast the euphonious green spot which I also couldn’t resist. The Moonalice Series also celebrates it’s 200th poster.

Moonalice legend says that all work and no play makes Obama a dull boy, so on a wise wombat’s advice the President of the Free World found himself vacationing in another bright green spot on this big blue marble, Martha’s Vinyard, this very day, chipping golf balls and waiting for Tiger. The POTUS may have a long wait for Tiger – Mr. Woods has plans. Or as one might tweet: “Woke up, had breakfast, went back to sleep. Life’s good LOL, IMHO, OMG.”

Down, Melvins, Weedeater, Danava Poster

downposter

Down, Melvins, Weedeater and Danava played in San Francisco, California at The Regency on Friday, August 14, 2009 – it was more RAWK than can fit on one hairy Neanderthal hand!

Lovingly printed with Dinosaur-juice at Hangar 18 comes the latest in the Firehouse Goldenvoice series. To commemorate my use of oil-based inks made from petroleum by-products, here’s a tip of the hat to the Extinction of the Oil Industry and the friendly dinos who died for art.

I designed and printed this 5 color silkscreen gig poster with Cro-Magnon skill, using metallic tints and translucent layers, simply by employing my nimble opposable thumbs. Drag one of these home to your grotto before they go extinct – So Easy Even a Caveman Can Do it.

Firehouse Goldenvoice Series Number 56

Editon of 150

5 colors on heavy cover stock

27″ x 22.25″

Signed and Numbered

“Moonalice For Health” Poster

moon194

There’s a spirit in the air that inspired me to take a 1930’s era WPA Project poster for the Milk Industry and détourné it’s message to get people to the Moonalice show in Sebastopol, California at The Hop Monk Tavern on August 14, 2009.

Moonalice legend says that drinking Howling Monkey or Hop Monk’s fine beer while listening to Moonalice in the good clean air of Northern California leads to Good Teeth, Vitality, Endurance & Strong Bones!

In addition to these words of wisdom from Moonalice legend, let’s read what the wikipedia says:

• “In détournement, an artist reuses elements of well-known media to create a new work with a different message, often one opposed to the original. The term “détournement”, borrowed from the French, originated with the Situationist International; a similar term more familiar to English speakers would be “turnabout” or “derailment”. Détournement is similar to satirical parody, but employs more direct reuse or faithful mimicry of the original works rather than constructing a new work which merely alludes strongly to the original.”
