_______________

It’s Edwardian Ball time again, and as always, it’s a great pleasure to work with Justin Katz, the Edwardian Ball impresario, and once again I had a lot of fun making this poster!

My Edwardian Ball posters always have an edge of social critique in them. They are done with a wink and a nod, in keeping with the enjoyment of attending such an elaborate period pageant.

Most of the attendees also realize that the Edwardian era was one of unabashed and ostentatious oligarchy, unrivaled economic imperialism and a presumed European superiority complex. It’s all of these things that makes the period so bizarre to us today. I’ve always endeavored to reveal this outrageous and bizarre sense of imperial entitlement in my Edwardian Ball posters, and keep them wild and fun.

This year I’ve depicted Russian mega-oligarchs, Tsar & Tsarina, Nicholas and Alexandra. 100 years ago, they had one good year left before the Communists swept them away. We find them, lounging in state dinner attire, a pair of rare white tigers settled at their feet. The background is Rosslyn Chapel. The Russian says, “Tsar, have a nice trip! See ya next Fall!”

UM-NYE-FOIL

My poster is inspired by the Norse God Thor, who lords over the earth from high Valhalla, above the Rainbow Bridge at the end of days, Ragnarok.
–
New Years Eve is a symbolic renewal, a rebirth of creative energy, and a transformation of old patterns into new. With the end comes a new beginning!
–
I have always been inspired by the mystical and underground comix style of the master poster maker, Rick Griffin. This poster is a tip of my Viking helmet to the king.

–
I will be making a very limited release of my Artist Edition and Mirror Foil Edition on Thursday (appropriately enough: Thor’s Day), January 7, 2016 at a random time.

PangeaSeed and artist Chuck Sperry are pleased to announce the eleventh official print release of our 2015 print suite “Tales from the Deep: Stories, Myths & Monsters” – a fine art print suite to help save our seas. This limited edition will be released Thursday, November 12 at 12pm PST via shop.PangeaSeed.org – limit one print per household.
_______________
My print for Pangea Seed, “Siren”, is meant as warning. My imagination has always been drawn to this mythical being – dangerous and enchanting – whose form is an enthralling warning. The Siren dances and sings like the sea itself, seducing us with her sound, movement and beauty.

Long ago, on November 5, 1965, prominent climate scientists Roger Revelle, Wallace Broecker, Charles Keeling, Harmon Craig, and J Smagorisnky met with US President Lyndon Johnson and warned him of their findings on Climate Change. By 1974, Wallace Broekner had modeled his prediction for the affects of accumulated carbon dioxide on the global surface temperature of the Earth. His predictions remain accurate to this day.

As of 2015 we have experienced a 1 degree centigrade rise in temperature worldwide, as Broekner predicted.

In the last few seasons we have witnessed the California Drought, a record fire season, and the Pacific Blob (a 2-7 degree rise in Pacific Coastal water temperatures).

I am alarmed by the state of our planet’s environment. I grew up with the warnings. The predicted changes are here now.

It’s clearly time to act. Please be mindful and give your care to the environment. It’s time to do what you can to become a good steward of the environment. I am always happy to contribute my time and energy to Pangea Seed! Their efforts in helping to save the seas deserve our support and good energies!
