Brian Setzer Orchestra at The Warfield Poster

briansetzer_chucksperry1

The Firehouse Goldenvoice Series is getting mighty close to 100 posters as the end of the year approaches.

I designed this one in a 1940’s Film Noir style (complete with venetian shade shadows in the background) – a nice companion to my Moby Poster from earlier this year.

Nice thing, I got to design this on my new computer. Of course the drawing was done in the old fashioned way – with good old fashioned brush and ink. The new computer helped to put this all together. It just means less time to wait while changing my mind about colors or shapes – and of course I can watch old movies while designing to get inspired – or video chat with Chris Shaw (which just makes me laugh). So just like Brian Setzer Orchestra this poster is a mix of new and old. I’ll be posting some photos of this when I get them back from the studio later tonight or tomorrow morning so stay tuned.

The metallic gold is very heavy and runs under all the colors to make very beautiful tints and shimmers.

Here’s the images:

The Cranberries at The Regency SF

thecranberries_chucksperry

Dolores O’Riordan can take the listener to a place no male vocalist can. That’s why I portray her here as a Siren.

You could just tell the band was way into it. Packed house and everyone was singing all the way to the back wall.

Show was just amazing!

Widespread Panic Poster

Widespread Panic at the Riverside Theater, Milwaukee, WI

November 20, 21, 22, 2009

22 x 33

Edition of 325

7 color silkscreen (metallics, glazes and rich hand-mixed colors)

Printed on archival cream paper

Here’s a preview of my Widespread Panic Poster for their three shows at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 20. 21, 22, 2009.

widespreadpanic_sperry7

The background circle pattern is a rich red to chocolate-red blend printed over a striking light yellow-orange – highlighted by a very heavy gold metallic psychedelic, optical art circle pattern.

widespreadpanic_sperry1

Transitioning between background and form – the circle pattern repeats as a subtle white glaze over the rich blue metallic female form.

widespreadpanic_sperry3

I’ve brought the circle patterns over the wild hair and into the shadows in the female form as an even more subtle ochre glaze. The ochre glaze was printed last, over the black, and reflects light gloss over semi-gloss black.

Poster will be made available by Widespread Panic at the the Riverside Theater in Wisconsin starting on Friday, November 20, 2009.
