“The California Report” KQED Radio, Covers “Occupy Bay Area”

Today is the one year anniversary of the beginning of the Occupy Movement, and I sat down with KQED Radio’s Rachael Myrow at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, to talk about my Occupy poster, “This Is Our City And We Can Shut It Down” (below). This poster is included in the “Occupy Bay Area” exhibition at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Rachael spoke to me, fellow artist Eric Drooker, and exhibition curator, Betti-Sue Hertz about the significance of the art exhibition and more importantly, the progress and significance of the Occupy Movement in general.

Read Rachael Myrow’s “News Fix” article from KQED’s website on my Press & Reviews page HERE.

________________

Classic Punk artists Blondie and Devo delivered tonight; and I provided punk flyer fodder for their enjoyment – my Blondie / Devo poster for the Warfield Theater – number 163 in the Firehouse Goldenvoice Poster Series. All the members of Devo were spied, crowded around my poster digging it tonight, loving all the references to their song titles. There’s a tip of the hat to the trash punk aesthetic by using comic book advertising material for a basis of the design, and another tip of the hat to the artists by including their album and song titles in my design. Great night!

Yesterday was fantastic. I finished my poster for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros earlier in the week, with the heroic help of Lulu Erhardt. And I have to say this is up there with my best printing.  Dropped off the posters with Edward Sharpe’s man Ryan, and he loved them. Tickets were waiting at will-call, and the Greek Theatre was just the best place to hear the uplifting Edward Sharpe. I saw the show with our tireless webmaster and all-around computer genius, Nick Cernak. Nick and I sat in the grass with an amazing view of the Bay, rocking out and rapping about our future plans.

I’ve got some big projects coming down the line, a multi-city, poster tour of Argentina in October, and a book coming out in English and Spanish parallel text (I’d like this book to appeal to everyone who lives in America – North and South); the book is to support my tour there. I’ll have more to announce in regard to the planned book soon.

And right after Argentina, I’ll be joining Nick and the extremely talented Moonalice artist circle for another awesome visit to New York City. Great plans, great night.
