Jerry Garcia Art Print
Jerry Garcia (Spring), 2016
21 x 32
Edition of 500
8 colors on cream paper
Signed and Numbered
_______________
This poster was officially available through the Jerry Garcia Estate in celebration of Jerry Garcia’s Birthday 2016.
I will be making my artist copies available only through my art shows and live appearances through the end of 2016.
_______________
My aim is to capture the young Jerry Garcia in the springtime of his life and in the full bloom of his youthful idealism gazing into his own future replete with possibilities. I wove a psychedelic paisley pattern throughout the design rendered in eight colors, including bright hues, hand-blended metallics and translucent glazes. My hope is to portray the young Jerry, who while participating in the Haight-Ashbury’s utopian experiment, helped to transform the world through optimism and good humor, light and music.

Thanks to all my friends who came, and especially all my friends who pitched in to help! Huge thanks to the band – it was awesome getting time to hang out a little together! Appreciate your time and generosity – and crew – everyone was so generous and hospitable – special thanks to Ben Draper for rolling out the red carpet, and Paul Hoffman for the amazing light show! Ben, Derrick, Jon, JC, Kenny, Brian – you guys ruled! Special thanks to Matt and Sunny for a great blotter art show! Thanks to Alan Kaufman and Ron Turner at Last Gasp, for a successful “Outlaw Bible of American Art” book release! What a fantastic afternoon and night of rock music!

Here’s an excerpt from Joshua Huver’s article announcing my show in “The Bay Bridged”:
“Widespread Panic, a sextet that consists of John “JB” Bell and Jimmy Herring on guitar, John “JoJo” Hermann on keys, Domingo S. Ortiz on percussion, Dave Schools on bass and Duane Trucks reprising his role as drummer, have a strong “home” advantage in the Bay. Though they’re not from here, one of the most direct reasons for the deep connection between Widespread Panic and the Bay Area is in large thanks to the Haight-Ashbury artist Chuck Sperry, whose 15+ years of illustrating fine art silk screens for concert posters has had some of his most memorable work featured for Panic prints. So much so that on Friday July 15, from noon-6pm, Sperry will be hosting the 3rd Annual Open House at Hangar 18, the Oakland studio where Sperry’s works are born. This will be a farewell any fan of soulfully southern jam-rock will not want to miss.”
