_______________

I will be making a very limited online release of “The Who Hits 50″ Poster on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at a random time.
(Excuse the delay in releasing this poster. I had a fantastic end to an excellent year, and needed to take a couple of weeks to regroup for exciting plans for 2015.)

I want to welcome a lot of newcomers to my site! I’ll quickly explain how my releases on my website are conducted. The Who will be available, right here, in this post on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at a random time. A paypal “Buy Now” button will appear under the poster (above) at a random time, and I will announce the price of the poster at the same time. Good luck to everyone, and as always, I am very appreciative of your support!

_______________

Often, in the 20 years I’ve been designing and printing my own rock poster art, I have been asked, “If you could do a poster for any band, one you haven’t done a poster for, which band would that be?”

I inevitably answer, “The Who.” I am honored to have been asked by The Who to create the official poster for their “50th Anniversary British Tour 2014.” And now, in their 50th year, I can check the box next to my dream-come-true, wish-list item.

It crossed my mind that in The Who’s 50th year rocking the planet, I am in my 52nd year alive. I grew up with The Who. They have colored every corner of my life for every year I’ve been alive.

I poured my love for The Who into the seven hand-screenprinted colors of my limited edition poster. I felt the design should reflect a modern, pop art, attitude. I rendered The Who’s emblematic RAF symbol in bright colors adorned with my signature psychedelic circle patterns, printed in heavy gold and silver, hand mixed inks. I’m extremely happy with the result, and couldn’t be happier to have made this piece of art for one of the best rock bands on earth.

Kraftwerk is playing it’s entire album catalog in a series of concerts entitled “1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 : The Catalog in 3D” on eight consecutive nights from January 16 to January 23, 2015 at the Paradiso, Amsterdam. I created a digitized and pixelated portrait of Dutch artist genius Vincent Van Gogh for Kraftwerk’s electronic concert series at Holland’s legendary Paradiso. If you look closely Van Gogh has been broken into a random sequence of binary code. Even though the subject is geometrically fragmented, his angst is still recognizable through his piercing blue eyes. I felt this pairing of art’s modernist genius with music’s modernist masters to be an evocative commentary on the world’s uneasy progress into the digital age.

________________

It’s Edwardian Ball time again, and as always, it’s a great pleasure to work with Justin Katz, the Edwardian Ball impresario, and once again I had a lot of fun making this poster!

My Edwardian Ball posters always have an edge of social critique in them. They are done with a wink and a nod, in keeping with the enjoyment of attending such an elaborate period pageant.

Most of the attendees also realize that the Edwardian era was one of unabashed and ostentatious oligarchy, unrivaled economic imperialism and a presumed European superiority complex. It’s all of these things that makes the period so bizarre to us today. I’ve always endeavored to reveal this outrageous and bizarre sense of imperial entitlement in my Edwardian Ball posters, and keep them wild and fun.

My balance toward the subject, elicited a Jordanian princess and her French noble husband to buy and frame my Edwardian Ball poster from 2011. They invited me for drinks on one of my trips to France. As they explained to me, “You must understand, we are decedents of this world, and even we think this world is outdated and bizarre. I’m impressed how you balanced your view of it, to depict its elegance and outrageousness at the same time. It’s exactly the alienation we feel towards this past.”

I told them I was coming at the problem from the other direction, as a critique, and we laughed. I told them that I was still a warrior for the working class. Sometimes these worlds collide in rock and roll.

In this poster I depict King Edward VII, as a Masonic Zombie, supreme in his oligarchic entitlement, one hand on his sword (might at the ready) the other subduing his trained ape (the artist). The setting is British Imperial India, the colonies, and a map shows the imperial campaign: “Civilization” wages war against “Savages, Trolls, and The Great Unwashed.”

In this period of unfettered worldwide oligarchy, is it any wonder us apes are getting restless?
