My New Year poster for Twiddle depicts Astraea, the innocent goddess of justice, purity and precision. We’ve lived through enough cruelty and inhumanity in this iron era, and I feel compelled to emphasize the spirit of renewel this new year. Astraea is associated with the constellation Virgo, and in the renaissance – indeed, throughout history – embodies the ethos of spiritual and moral renewal. She appears to humanity in the guise of kindness and care, gentleness and reasonable consideration. You all know me, yes, the eternal optimist; let’s carry the bright torch of humanity, and light the way to a better 2019!
