Sperry Creates a More Enjoyable, Secure and Convenient Online Buying Experience For Poster Fans

As you may remember, on March 8 my site experienced a concerning crash during the release of my Widespread Panic “Venus” poster.

The bots attacking my website had reached critical mass, assailing my site with 2.3 million automated refreshes in the first 2 minutes of the sale, overloading and arresting the enterprise level serving capacity. In other words my website melted spectacularly.

On March 11, I organized a lottery sale with the kind support of my representing gallery: Harman Projects. We ran the lottery as a flash release, thus foiling the bot targeting that comes with advance warning. The lottery attracted 50,000 automated lottery entries — in the last 30 minutes of the hour entry window — which were parsed by hand. Ken Harman kindly devoted a week of work to this task, hand sorting and vetting each entry. The method was successful, but required an impractical level of time and effort.

Notably, on March 11 I promised you this: “I’m actively working on a detailed plan to address the bot issue and create a more enjoyable, secure and convenient online buying experience for my faithful supporters.”

I studied intensively the technological challenges presented by automated buying applications, and discovered the one company able to employ cutting-edge software and proprietary methodology to achieve victory over bot buyers, and ensure that real collectors always win: EQL.

On August 5, 2023 I will make good on my promise to you.

On August 5, with my release of The Sperry Collectible Card Set • Series 2, I am implementing a partnership with EQL to make all of my launch items (posters, prints, and card sets) available only to true collectors.

EQL is a hype commerce platform developed by ex-Google engineers in Melbourne, Australia.  Their platform was purpose-built to manage the chaos of hyped releases.  An EQL launch allows all interested customers to submit an entry into the launch for free, and if you’re selected, the opportunity to purchase the relevant product from the seller. Their machine-learning Fairness Algorithm filters out bots and bad actors, ensuring only real fans can purchase.

EQL works with an impressive list of companies across categories including sneakers, apparel, premium liquor, and more, facing these same challenges and who have chosen to use EQL to ensure their launches are Run Fair.  I am proud to announce that I am the first artist in their portfolio.  I expect EQL’s platform will be the “enjoyable, secure, and convenient online buying experience” I promised: the promise I made to you, my loyal supporters.

On August 5, 2023, at 12 noon PST I will open my online launch for The Sperry Collectible Card Set • Series 2.  The ballot will be open for 24 hours.  As long as you enter during this timeframe, time of entry does not impact your chances of purchase.  One entry per user.  Multiple entries will be penalized.

Visit the brand new Chuck Sperry Store (in the main menu of my website or HERE.) where the online launch will open on August 5, 2023, at 12 noon PST.

Chuck Sperry Solo Show “Offerings” in Paris

L’Oeil Ouvert Gallery of Paris is pleased to present Chuck Sperry’s “Offerings” — a solo art exposition by San Francisco-based screen print master.

For his upcoming solo exposition in Paris, Chuck will be showing brand new editions on oak panel, archive panels, his latest editions on paper, rare test prints and surprises.

American artist Chuck Sperry is known for his ethereal and psychedelically saturated screen prints that draw crowds of dedicated fans around the world. He draws inspiration from graffiti, pop art, Symbolism, Art Nouveau and ukiyo-e. He currently imagines a verdant garden of new work tended by his signature shimmering muses, calling this work a “utopian provocation.”

On view: June 3 – June 30.

Vernissage: Saturday, June 3, 18h – 22h

l’Oeil Ouvert Gallery Presents:
“Offerings” a Chuck Sperry solo exhibition
1 rue Lucien Sampaix, 75010 Paris

“I’ve long admired Sperry’s work, so the release of this poster in support of the ERA’s overdue ratification gave me an opportunity to discuss his art and activism.” — Steven Heller, Print Magazine

Steven Heller: This is not the only poster you’ve done for equal rights. Do you feel that you’ve made inroads?

Chuck Sperry: I like to hope so. Each generation is getting a little bit better at it getting along. There’s a concomitant reactionary backlash. The progressives represent the future, and the reactionaries represent a return to the past. The country, the world, is clearly in a struggle to move into the future and toward equality and universal human rights.

Additionally, my concert poster work intersects with a mainstream audience, and bringing progressive ideas into that space has an opportunity to speak to a lot of people. By degrees these messages accumulate.

From the Haight Street Art Center concerning the show:

Kaleidoscope Eyes: Celebrating The 80th Anniversary of Bicycle Day Through Blotter Art

On April 19th, 1943, Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann intentionally ingested a small amount of LSD and then rode his bicycle home, experiencing history’s first intentional LSD trip. He later described the experience as “a remarkable and memorable day.”

In subsequent decades LSD moved from laboratories to the streets and was often circulated via perforated sheets of paper known as “blotter paper,” frequently adorned with colorful designs and unique symbols. The art served as both an ad hoc form of branding and created a playful connection between the distributor and the intended audience.

In the 1980s blotter art began to be collected and displayed as a form of underground folk art, particularly due to the zealous enthusiasm of collector and counterculture archivist Mark McCloud.

The Kaleidoscope Eyes exhibit brings together pieces of historical blotter art with pieces from modern screenprint masters and popular rock artists alongside pieces signed by internationally-renown psychedelic luminaries and even some pieces from the legendary Institute of Illegal Images amassed by McCloud.

We’re excited to be partnering with Shakedown Gallery in our retail space and will be offering limited edition signed and unsigned Blotter art through the run of this exhibit.

Also showing:

• Olga Spiegel: Pioneer in Psychedelic Art

• The Haight-Ashbury Experience and the Pursuit of Happiness: The Photography of Herb Greene

• Enough Is Enough: End Gun Violence

• Via Dolorosa, The 14 Stations of Tyre Nichols by John Mavroudis

Widespread Panic Vegas “Venus” Poster Wins Award

My Widespread Panic Vegas “Venus” Poster has been voted Poster of the Week by Expressobeans members. Thanks to all my supporters, I super appreciate it! Many thanks to Expressobeans.com. Congratulations to all the winners of the lottery release!

As you may remember my last Widespread Panic poster featured Diana, goddess of the Moon, making an offering to Venus, the evening star, goddess of love. Many felt this was the one of the last posters released before the pandemic closed everything down. Now, after three years, it appears we’re back to a busy concert schedule. The Center for Disease Control will soon declare an official end to the pandemic. My Las Vegas poster shows Venus receiving Diana’s offering with gratitude.
