It’s January in San Francisco. The chill is starting to let go; the days get a little longer … and here comes the annual Edwardian Ball to entertain and amaze San Francisco’s creative nightlife, and jumpstart the year. This Edwardian dress-up party is clearly one of the very best events of it’s kind, and I’m very happy to make cool Edwardian Ball art for organizer Justin Katz every year. It’s always fun to try and top the preceding year’s effort – to do something really unusual and well-made, beautiful and over-the-top. This year, decked out for street attack aka “Squirt” I made this graffiti-style, billboard-sized wall piece for the event (measuring in at 8 feet by 5 feet), which is proudly hanging on the facade of the Regency Ballroom all weekend, facing San Francisco’s busiest thoroughfare, Van Ness. So you really can not get better placement, and sorry people, that’s a one of a kind. Here’s Edwardian Ball’s head-honcho, Justin Katz, digging my street piece right after installation:
Sperry aka Squirt:
I’ve had a really rewarding start for 2013! I moved my new semi-automatic silkscreen press into the studio on Monday. I’ve already fired this baby up and it’s going to be sweet! Meanwhile, I’m building in a gallery / showroom into the entrance of my Hangar 18 Studio, the new H18 Gallery. I’m really looking forward to showing my work and others as the year progresses. More to announce later. So 2013 is taking off in fine shape. And while all this was going on, I got to work on this beautiful Sum 41 poster, number 173 in the Firehouse Goldenvoice Poster Series, a simian astronaut, rendered in brilliant gold and silver metallic subtly tinted with blues and purples. This one shines!

Man oh man, Hank 3 rocked the house tonight. What a fun show! And what a cool mob at the gig. For this one, I busted out a San Francisco gold miner, gun in belt, axe on shoulder. It is based on a San Francisco paint company logo from the 1920′s. I felt Hank would relate, being an independent soul, and having fought for his claim – especially right now on the eve of releasing 6 debut independent records on his own label.
