Soundgarden San Francisco Poster

On July 21, 2011, in Rock Posters, by squirt

“Summer Print-athalon 2011″ culminates with my Soundgarden, San Francisco poster. There’s so much symbology in the details of this poster, that I think it’s more fun to let you figure it out. So I won’t say anything here. Overall theme is a soothsayer; I feel a lot of Soundgarden’s lyrics are broad and mystical – having a prophetic quality. The figure is one of my Evil Masonic Voodoo Zombies (perhaps a more serious, 33rd degree version).

God this show rocked! I love when the poster and the stage coincidentally (or synchronistically) match. During “Black Hole Sun” the eye in the forehead of the skull grew into a big black dot like the poster – and then turned into a film projection of the sun with an edge of coronal mass ejection – it was veeeeeery cool.

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, July 21, 2011

5 colors on archival cream paper

(ENGLISH VERSION)

LABORITORIO FOTO SERIGRAPHICO DEL LEONCAVALLO – “In March of the 2006 Chuck Sperry came to Milan in order to establish, during the period spring-summer, his project called the FIREHOUSE EUROPE. With Marcelo de la Hoz, and “sponsorship” from Vandalo, they renovated an area and created the equipment for screenprinting in a space of Centro Sociale Leoncavallo that was in disuse. It can be said that it was begun thus; the new silkscreen movement at Leoncavallo. Chuck, with your short passage in our home, you leave, but not only have you left sources of inspiration for us, and the spirit of silkscreen art: you have left also an artistic treasure, for all of us, of an immense value!

The fundamental reason of this kind invitation is to share this treasure with all of you…”
